CAR-T therapy: cell quality matters alongside quantity
An analysis of the HD-CAR-1 trial links a particularly active immune-cell group to responses at low cell doses.
Researchers examined blood samples and manufactured cell products from an early clinical trial involving 28 people with blood cancers. At low CAR-T doses, treatment response was associated with the number of particularly functional cells. The composition of the starting blood also mattered.
The results appeared in Nature Communications on 29 July 2026. Further studies must validate the potential biomarker. The analysis does not establish a general recommendation to reduce cell doses.
