Comparison of allogeneic stem cell transplantation versus conventional therapy in patients with relapsed or progressive multiple myeloma following first-line therapy (AlloRelapseMM).

Detailed description

The AlloRelapseMMStudy investigates the role of allogeneic stem cell transplantation compared to standard therapy in patients with multiple myeloma. The study is intended for patients who have relapsed or whose disease has progressed following first-line therapy. In the study, patients are randomly assigned to one of two groups as follows:

1.) Stem Cell Transplantation In allogeneic stem cell transplantation, the patient is first treated with high-dose chemotherapy. Following this, the patient receives stem cells from a matched donor. This triggers an immune response against the cancer cells. The goal of this two-part procedure is to kill the cancer cells.

2.) Standard therapy In the standard therapy group, the patient receives an approved treatment consisting of a combination of three different drugs that kill the cancer cells.

The goal of the study is to determine which therapy leads to longer survival.
