German Lymphoma Alliance Registry

Malignant lymphomas are cancerous diseases of the lymphatic system, which plays a central role in the immune system. There are many different subtypes, such as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and Waldenström macroglobulinemia. The exact cause of lymphoma is often unclear; however, there is evidence suggesting that genetic mutations, infections, and a weakened immune system may be potential triggers. Treatment depends on the type and stage of the disease and may include chemotherapy, antibody therapy, targeted drugs, or stem cell transplants.

Clinical trials provide important information on the effectiveness of new therapies, but they do not always reflect the full spectrum of patients, such as older adults, patients with pre-existing conditions, or those with rare forms of lymphoma. That is why the GLA Registry (German Lymphoma Alliance Registry) was established. It collects what is known as “real-world data”—that is, information from actual day-to-day treatment in hospitals and clinics.

The GLA Registry is not a treatment study but an observational registry. It documents treatments and disease progression in lymphoma patients both prospectively (looking ahead) and retrospectively (looking back). This data helps to better understand treatment patterns, assess treatment success more realistically, and identify gaps in care. Side effects, quality of life, and the use of healthcare services are also recorded whenever possible.

All women and men aged 18 and older with a confirmed diagnosis of malignant lymphoma or a related disease (e.g., Castleman’s disease) are eligible to participate. Patients with Hodgkin lymphoma without HIV, multiple myeloma, or chronic lymphocytic leukemia are excluded. Written consent is required. Participation is possible regardless of the stage of the disease—that is, immediately after diagnosis, during treatment, or after treatment.
