What is this trial about?

The PALOMA study is investigating the efficacy of a novel combination chemotherapy agent (CPX-351) compared with conventional therapy for high-risk myelodysplastic syndrome prior to allogeneic stem cell transplantation.

Detailed description

Allogeneic stem cell transplantation is currently the only curative option prior to allogeneic stem cell transplantation. To bridge the gap until allogeneic stem cell transplantation, conventional chemotherapy or milder forms of chemotherapy are traditionally used. Despite these therapies, stem cell transplantation cannot be performed in all patients. CPX-351 is a new combination chemotherapy regimen that has already demonstrated good results in acute leukemias. The study is now investigating whether CPX-351 leads to higher and more durable response rates, including a more favorable safety profile and long-term outcomes, compared to the conventional treatment approaches currently used prior to stem cell transplantation.
