What is this trial about?

The XPAG-ITP study is investigating, in patients with immune thrombocytopenia (low platelet count), whether the combination of a thrombopoietin receptor agonist (eltrombopaq) with a corticosteroid (dexamethasone) leads to improved platelet recovery.

Detailed description

In immune thrombocytopenia, a dysregulation of the immune system leads to an accelerated breakdown of platelets. Platelets are essential for blood clotting, so if their count is too low, bleeding can occur. The standard treatment for a first-time episode is high-dose corticosteroid therapy. However, relapses can still occur despite this treatment. In this phase, thrombopoietin receptor agonists are often used to accelerate platelet production. This study aims to conduct a comparative analysis to determine whether the combination of both medications leads to a better and more sustained response than treatment with a corticosteroid alone.
